The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has initiated flood relief registration across 65 provinces and all 50 districts of Bangkok, receiving over 700,000 applications. As of 1:30 PM on October 3rd, the DDPM reported 702,217 applications submitted. Bangkok led with the highest number of applications at 343,545, followed by Samut Prakan with 95,450 and Pathum Thani with 83,482.
These payments are in accordance with a cabinet resolution from September 29th. To be eligible, residents must reside in areas officially declared as disaster zones and emergency assistance zones due to flooding that occurred between May 15th and September 30th.
The DDPM has established four categories for household assistance:
– Households experiencing flooding for seven days or less with property damage will receive 9,000 baht (approximately US$280).
– Households flooded for more than seven consecutive days are also eligible for 9,000 baht.
– For homes surrounded by floodwaters for over seven consecutive days, impeding normal daily life, the assistance is 5,000 baht (approximately US$156).
– Residents of high-rise buildings situated above the flood level who were unable to live normally for more than seven consecutive days will receive 5,000 baht.
Additionally, families of individuals who perished in mudslides and floods are entitled to a funeral payment of 2 million baht (approximately US$62,500).
Applications are being processed through the Tang Rat app, which was launched by the DDPM and the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA) on October 2nd. Registration for Bangkok districts commenced at 8 AM on that day and has been rolling out in stages. Some residents encountered messages indicating their address was not within an eligible assistance area. The DDPM clarified that this was due to the system’s phased opening by district and that it would update automatically to reflect declared disaster areas. The department stated it would collaborate with provincial offices and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to expedite payment processing.
