Bangkok has provided temporary shelter and veterinary care for 23 dogs and cats rescued from flood-affected districts. These animals are currently housed at the Prawet Dog Control Centre and will remain there until it is deemed safe for them to return to their homes.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Veterinary Public Health Office reported yesterday, September 29, that the animals were transported from Khan Na Yao, Bang Kapi, and Prawet districts. A six-wheel lorry was utilized for the operation. Upon arrival at the centre, all animals undergo health assessments and receive necessary treatment or rehabilitation. The centre is collaborating with animal welfare organizations, rescue networks, and the Department of Livestock Development, which is offering veterinary assistance.
The BMA is accommodating animals from areas that have been officially declared disaster zones. For pets to be accepted, they must have an identifiable owner. Stray animals require a regular carer who can verify their identity and origin. The animals will stay at the centre until floodwaters recede and it is safe for them to be reunited with their owners, carers, or returned to their original locations.
Residents who need to arrange temporary shelter for an animal can do so by contacting their district office, an animal welfare foundation, or a partner organization. These entities can then coordinate the transport of the animal to the centre.
Owners or carers are required to complete a temporary shelter request form and submit a copy of their identification card. Individuals bringing animals that require special diets or regular medication should also bring these supplies with them. Once conditions normalize, owners or their authorized representatives must present identification to collect the animal. Additionally, owned dogs and cats must be microchipped and registered as pets before their release.
For further information, residents can contact the Bangkok Dog Control Centre in Prawet at 02-328-7460, the environmental section of their local district office, the BMA hotline at 1555, or Traffy Fondue.
