Pattaya City has initiated a significant road improvement project aimed at resurfacing approximately 3.5 kilometers of Phaniad Chang Road, with the goal of completing the primary paving work before the upcoming New Year holiday. Deputy Mayor Manoch Nongyai presided over a project meeting on October 9, 2026, at Pattaya City Hall, attended by officials from the city’s engineering department and the designated construction contractor.
The project encompasses roughly 3,477 meters of existing concrete road, with lane widths varying between six and eight meters. The construction process will involve laying a new asphalt-concrete surface directly over the current road structure and will also include the replacement of drainage-pit covers. While the formal contract period extends from October 1, 2026, to January 18, 2027, city officials anticipate that the main resurfacing operations will be concluded in advance of the New Year festivities.
The resurfacing efforts on Phaniad Chang Road will be executed in four distinct sections, covering areas that serve both North and Central Pattaya. These designated zones include the stretch near Soi Lukdod and Big C Extra, the segment between Sukhumvit Road and the Tantarak junction, the portion from the Tantarak junction to Soi Sukhumvit Pattaya 32, and the route connecting the Khon La Fan restaurant to the Mum Aroi junction. Phaniad Chang Road plays a crucial role as a secondary artery, linking various residential and commercial districts within Pattaya.
City officials indicated that the contractor is scheduled to commence paving work the following week, with the overall construction duration estimated at approximately 120 days. The contractor has been formally instructed to collaborate with the Pattaya engineering department and the Pattaya City Police to formulate a comprehensive traffic management plan in anticipation of road closures. Temporary lane closures and diversions are expected throughout the construction phase. However, as of the October 9 meeting, no official diversion map or detailed schedule for closures had been released. Residents, commuters, and visitors who frequently utilize Phaniad Chang Road are advised to stay informed of announcements from Pattaya City regarding travel through the affected areas.
This infrastructure upgrade aligns with a policy endorsed by Mayor Poramese Ngampichet’s administration, which prioritizes the enhancement of local road networks. Phaniad Chang Road has, in the past, experienced issues with standing water during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in the vicinity of the Mum Aroi junction. Although the current resurfacing project includes the replacement of drainage-pit covers, the announced scope does not extend to the installation of additional drainage pumps or the expansion of the existing drainage system. Further information concerning construction timelines and traffic restrictions is expected to be published by the city prior to work commencing on individual road sections.
