The Land Transport Department (DLT) has reported that as of September 2026, the total number of registered vehicles nationwide reached 46,172,123 units. This figure is composed of 44,800,779 units registered under the Motor Vehicle Act and 1,371,344 units under the Land Transport Act. Electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for 1,394,043 of these, representing 3.02% of the total. This EV count includes 734,831 hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), 562,029 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and 97,183 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

In terms of vehicle registration and tax payments, a total of 3,982,079 units completed these processes. Of this total, 3,028,248 units paid their annual vehicle taxes. The breakdown of tax payment channels shows that 83.78% of payments were made at DLT offices, 11.60% utilized the Drive Thru For Tax service, and 3.56% were processed through online channels, including the DLT e-service portal, DLT Vehicle Tax Plus, Kiosk machines, and various service counters.

New vehicle registrations for September 2026 amounted to 244,388 units, marking a 3.86% decrease compared to the previous month. Personal motorcycles constituted the largest portion of these new registrations at 69.77%, followed by passenger cars with up to seven seats at 24.23%. New EV registrations numbered 39,526 units, which represents 18.21% of all new vehicle registrations. This includes 22,589 BEVs, 14,859 HEVs, and 2,078 PHEVs.

The overall number of driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations nationwide stands at 35,796,885. This comprises 33,962,170 driver’s licenses issued under the Motor Vehicle Act and 1,834,715 vehicle registrations under the Land Transport Act. New licenses and registrations in September totaled 188,147, an increase of 15.71% from the preceding month. Notably, new public driver’s licenses saw a substantial surge of 110.97%, reaching 35,169. This rise is attributed in part to stricter government regulations mandating that ride-hailing drivers possess valid public driver’s licenses by September 30, 2026. The DLT also extended its service hours for public driver’s license applications and renewals to accommodate the increased demand.

International driver’s license applications submitted through the Pocket Tang app accounted for 10,309 applications, representing 57.03% of the total 18,078 applications received. License renewals for the month totaled 266,456, with 222,636 pertaining to driver’s licenses under the Motor Vehicle Act and 43,820 for vehicle registrations under the Land Transport Act.

Additional transportation statistics, including data on transportation operations and vehicle inspections, are available on the Land Transport Statistics website at https://web.dlt.go.th/statistics/.

The DLT has also launched a new “DRIVE THRU FOR TRANSFER” service to facilitate the convenient transfer of vehicle ownership between individuals. This service is currently available at the DLT Bangkok Office 5 (Chatuchak) during weekdays from 07:30 to 15:30. Prospective users will need to present the vehicle registration manual, transfer of ownership documents, a copy of their ID card, and a power of attorney if applicable.
