Thailand’s high school physics Olympiad team has returned home to a warm welcome at Suvarnabhumi airport. The team secured an impressive haul of medals at the Asian Physics Olympiad 2026 in Busan, South Korea, winning one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals, along with four honourable mentions.
Assoc Prof Teeradej Chiensuksakul, director of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology, led a ceremony at the airport to congratulate the students on their achievements. Sirawit Musikasophon of Kamnoetvidya Science Academy led the team’s success with a gold medal, followed by Pattaraphon Thanapitak of Triam Udom Suksa School who secured the silver. Bronze medals were won by students from Suankularb Wittayalai School and Suankularb Wittayalai Rangsit School. Other team members from Montfort College, Triam Udom, and Mahidol Wittayanusorn School received honourable mentions.
In addition to the medals, Thailand was also awarded the host flag for the 2027 event, which will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima. The team’s performance has been hailed as a significant achievement for Thai education and a testament to the country’s growing prowess in the field of physics.
