Thai stocks surge on strong GDP, foreign buying.

The Thai stock market closed higher on Monday, with the SET Index gaining 17.38 points, or 1.08%, to settle at 1,626.44 points on a trading value of 75,660.86 million baht. The market exhibited positive sentiment throughout the day, with buying pressure sustained from the morning session before a slight pullback in the afternoon.

Key drivers for the rally included strong performance from the electronics components sector, bolstered by second-quarter earnings reports that exceeded market expectations for companies like HANA and CCET. DELTA, a large-cap stock in the same sector, also contributed to the index’s rise, despite a minor dip in its price during the afternoon. Investors also focused on individual stocks reporting robust earnings and positive business outlooks, with CRC being a notable performer.

Further support came from positive economic data, as the National Economic and Social Development Council reported that Thailand’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the second quarter of 2026 expanded by 1.9%, surpassing the market’s forecast of 1.7%. The economic outlook for 2026 was also revised upward to a growth range of 2.0-2.5%, from the previous projection of 1.5-2.5%. This, combined with better-than-expected overall corporate earnings for the second quarter, contributed to a more favorable investment climate.

Foreign capital inflows also played a significant role, with foreign investors showing a net purchase of 2,199.87 million baht. Securities companies recorded net purchases of 894.29 million baht, and domestic institutional investors bought a net 92.61 million baht. Conversely, domestic retail investors were net sellers, offloading 3,186.78 million baht.

Chanachai Phanthathanakit, IAA Director of Research at Maybank Securities (Thailand) Public Company Limited, commented that the Thai stock market traded in positive territory today, supported by international factors, particularly the slowdown in US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, which eased interest rate concerns and benefited risk assets. However, the index saw some profit-taking in the afternoon, especially in the oil and banking sectors, as well as DELTA’s pullback from its intraday high, which tempered the market’s upward momentum. Despite this, the index managed to stay above the 1,620-point level and close in positive territory.

Looking ahead, the market is expected to trade within a range after the recent strong gains. Investors will be closely watching overseas factors, including the US Producer Price Index (PPI) report and developments in the Middle East, which could impact energy prices and global market sentiment. The research director anticipates support at 1,605 points and resistance at 1,630 points. Short-term upside is supported by better-than-expected corporate earnings, stronger-than-projected Thai economic figures, and net foreign buying. However, following the sharp rise, trading is likely to shift towards selective stock picking, with a focus on companies demonstrating solid earnings and positive outlooks for the latter half of the year.
