Thai PM courts NZ investment in fruit, amusement park

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that T&G Global, a New Zealand-based horticulture and fresh fruit company, and Skyline Enterprises, led by CEO Mr. Jeff McDonald, have committed to investing in Thailand after private meetings with the companies’ management. Both firms have already secured local partners for their respective ventures, which will focus on fruit exports and an indoor amusement park, respectively.

T&G Global’s fruit export business will concentrate on apples, with projected annual sales in Thailand to surpass 3 billion baht and global sales reaching approximately 100 billion baht. The company sources its apples globally through advanced genetic technology rather than cultivating them in New Zealand. Thailand’s strategic geographical position is seen as a significant advantage, making it a prime distribution hub for markets in ASEAN, India, and the Middle East.

Initially, T&G Global plans to utilize Thailand as a distribution center for high-demand, consistently sourced products. In a subsequent phase, the company intends to explore the potential of introducing its genetic technology to assess the viability of Thai farmers growing apples, thereby increasing local production. The Prime Minister highlighted that Thailand’s existing agricultural technology and expertise could foster beneficial collaborative research and development for the company, the nation, and its farmers. T&G Global expressed strong confidence in Thailand and is scheduled to meet with potential partners.

Regarding Skyline Enterprises, Prime Minister Charnvirakul stated that the company has presented an investment plan and is currently in negotiations with a Thai partner. The identity of this partner remains confidential due to the significant land requirements for the proposed project. However, Skyline Enterprises has finalized its decision to invest in Thailand.
