Thai Airways to Double Fuel Surcharges as Jet Fuel Prices Surge

Thai Airways International will significantly increase fuel surcharges on multiple international routes starting May 1, as rising jet fuel costs continue to impact the aviation sector.

The airline said fuel prices have surged dramatically in recent weeks, climbing from around $80 per barrel to approximately $240 following the ongoing Middle East conflict.

As a result, ticket prices will rise across key routes, with fuel surcharges nearly doubling in many cases.

Popular routes affected include flights from Bangkok to major destinations such as Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo, Sydney, Milan, and London. Both economy and business class passengers will see substantial increases added to their ticket costs.

For example, surcharges on long-haul routes like London and Milan will rise from around 9,990 baht to over 19,000 baht for economy class, with even higher increases for business class.

The airline said the adjustment is necessary to offset rising operational costs and maintain service levels.

The move reflects wider pressure across the global aviation industry, as airlines struggle to cope with volatile fuel prices.

Travellers are advised to check updated ticket prices before booking, as costs may continue to fluctuate in the coming months.
