Hua Hin Monitors Drought Situation

10 hours ago, the Mayor of Hua Hin Municipality assigned Mr. Likhit Nunnin, Deputy Secretary of the Municipality, to participate in an online meeting (Zoom Meeting) to monitor the drought situation at the Hua Hin Municipality office. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Pratheep Boriboonrat, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, with the participation of heads of government agencies, representatives of local administrative organizations, and relevant units to expedite monitoring and integrate assistance for people affected by the drought in the district.

Currently, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province has declared disaster relief areas for emergency drought situations in 7 districts: Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sam Roi Yot, Hua Hin, Pran Buri, Thap Sakae, Bang Saphan, and Bang Saphan Noi, covering 18 sub-districts and 159 villages, affecting over 68,000 people in more than 34,700 households. Relevant agencies have been mobilizing clean water trucks to continuously distribute water for consumption to the affected population, with a total of over 543 million liters of water pumped and distributed.

The meeting also followed up on the progress of the water source development project along the railway line, which has been completed in 7 locations in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan and Bang Saphan districts, benefiting over 520 households. Additionally, 26 more projects are underway in 7 districts. Local administrative organizations, responsible for these projects, reported their progress, as well as challenges and obstacles, to proceed with creating small water reservoirs covering all districts of the province.

Regarding the plan to improve and restore water sources in the Hua Hin Royal Golf Course area, the province is collaborating with the Royal Irrigation Foundation to construct drainage pipes connecting to the golf course’s water channels. This will help mitigate both flood and drought issues in Hua Hin Municipality effectively.

Mr. Pratheep Boriboonrat, Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, stated that although Thailand has officially entered the rainy season, forecasts indicate that this year’s rainfall will be lower than last year due to the El Niño phenomenon. This may cause some areas to face intermittent rain and drought issues. Prachuap Khiri Khan is one of the provinces significantly affected, necessitating urgent cooperation from all sectors to assist the population in terms of water for consumption, agriculture, and planning for water reservoir development to ensure adequate and sustainable water supply for the province in the future.
